FEMINIST Salon Dinner | Reproductive Justice Edition
Ahead of the one year anniversary since Roe V Wade was overturned, FEMINIST hosted a group of activists, artists, organizers, influencers and non-profit leaders over a salon style dinner with a unified call to action: that our fight persists, and we must unite to tell the world what we can do to secure our right to bodily autonomy.
The first dinner salon will took place at Apartment 7x, by designer and tastemaker Eny Lee Parker in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn creating an intimate setting fostering conversation and collaboration.
During the family-style meal by award-winning chef, Sophia Roe FEMINIST Co-founders Aisha Becker-Burrowes, Blair Imani and Ky Polanco posed the question “what is your superpower” to start an intimate conversation that was nourished with ingredients by Farm to People and glasses full of natural wine by Vivanterre and Ghia.
Salon’s have historically promoted education, challenged norms, and contributed to movements. True to herstory, we chose this format to reflect on the year since Roe V Wade was reversed while also prompting conversation about what is next.
We reflected in each other’s super powers and connected to ultimately work together in this next phase of the continued fight for reproductive justice. We provided space for intergenerational, international and intersectional dialogue. Posing the question, ‘How do you see the fight for reproductive justice intersecting with other social justice movements?’ attendees including Deja Fox of Gen Z Girl Gang and Qween Jean of Black Trans Liberation sitting next to Tabitha St. Bernard Jacobs of Women’s March allowed for an intersectional meeting of minds. As we know, artists are essential to voicing some of the most challenging issues in movements, it was special to host photographer Lelani Foster and director Imani Dennison in this moment of reflection.
