Spread AAPI Love

Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) identity is not a single, uniform experience. Instead, it encompasses a vast diversity of cultures, languages, histories, and personal experiences.

This AAPI Heritage Month, Stop AAPI Hate is collecting and uplifting stories rooted in love rather than hate to showcase the resilience, cultural pride, solidarity, and power present within AAPI communities.

Tiana’s story of CELEBRATION:

Andreas’ story of SOLIDARITY

“I really wanted to share my Malaysian culture with others, considering that almost everyone I met in college barely knew anything about Malaysia. I joined the eboard of my college’s Asian Student Union for this reason ... These friendships and experiences I gained helped me cope with my homesickness all throughout college – though I will never stop missing Malaysia, I was lucky to have found a second home in my Asian-American community in college.”

Shanti’s story of RESISTANCE

“When my dad was 14, he invited a classmate home
for dinner. Just after his friend left, his mom told
him to never bring an “untouchable” home again. My
dad was shocked that his mother, who regularly fed
houseless people, adhered to the discriminatory and
brutal caste system ... My dad told his mother that he
wanted nothing to do with the caste system and soon
after legally relinquished his last name, one that was
of a respected caste ... I proudly carry my name as
a legacy of my dad’s resistance against the caste
system and his lifelong fight for human rights.”
